FREDERICKSBURG -- David E. Hershberger, 94 of Dunham Lane, Fredericksburg, passed away Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009 at the home of his daughter and family, William and Esther Beiler of Gap Mills, W. Va., with whom he had made his home for the past three years.
He was born in Trail on Sept. 29, 1914, a son of the late Eli E. and Fannie Troyer Hershberger. He married Fannie Nisley Mast on Feb. 5, 1942 and lived in matrimony for 52 years. He was ordained a minister at Mount Zion Amish Mennonite Church, Stuarts Draft, Va., in 1974. They then moved to Fredericksburg, in 1986 where he was a member and minister at Peniel Fellowship Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie; an adopted son, Stanley Hersberger, and one grandson, Wesley Dean Hershberger. He was the last remaining of his immediate family, preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his children; James Hershberger and wife, Betty, of Stuarts Draft, Va.; Ester Beiler and husband, William, of Gap Mills, W.Va; Nathan Hershberger of Fredericksburg; Dorothy Beiler and husband, John, of Swanton, Md.; and daughter-in-law Martha Hershberger of Shreve. There are 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
First visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today with a service following at Gap Mills Christian Fellowship, Gap Mills, W.Va. Second visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Peniel Christian Fellowship Church near Holmesville.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Peniel Christian Fellowship Church with Nathan Yoder and David Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Philip, Andrew.
