David Hughart was a native of Greenbrier County, Virginia (now West Virginia), and was the founder of the Hughart family in Porter County, Indiana. David Hughart removed to Porter County in 1835, where he secured a tract of government land in Liberty township, which he developed into a productive farm. About 1860 he removed from his farm to Valparaiso, where he engaged in the buying and shipping of grain, and here he continued to reside until his death, at the age of eighty-nine years.
