OBITUARY: (The Tribune - San Luis Obispo, California - Jan 08, 2002 page B2) David J. "Grandpa Jolly" Jolly, 86, of Newberry Park died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at an Arroyo Grande hospital while visiting family over the holidays. A private family memorial gathering is planned. Cremation will take place at Lady Family Mortuary in Arroyo Grande. Mr. Jolly was born March 24, 1915, in Ekalaka, Mont., and had resided in Newberry Park for over 24 years. He was a World War II Army veteran and retired from the U.S. Postal Service following a 32-year career as a mail carrier. He was devoted to his family and loved attending his grandchildren's sports games, FFA and other events. He was known to family and friends as "birdman" because he cared for orphaned, abandoned and wounded birds for many years. Mr. Jolly is survived by his daughters, Jo Ann Flatt of Glendale, Ore., Janice Ramstead and husband Bob of Thousand Oaks, and Jeannine Bunch and husband Bob of Arroyo Grande; sister Betty Burher of Spokane, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Jolly, in February 1996. Arrangements are under the direction of Lady Family Mortuary of Arroyo Grande.
