About David Overton

David OVERTON was born in 1765 in , , NC. He died in 1836 in Mcminville, Warren Co., TN. May have lived in Moore County, NC David brought his family "over the mountains", probably from North Carolina and settled on land along Hickory Creek and the Collins River in Warren County, Tennessee near what is now known as the town of McMinnville, most likely around 1814.

David prospered in Tennessee, his family grew to a total of 8 sons and three daughters; Moses, John, Henry, William, Jesse, George, David, James, Rebecca, Jane and Vina. County records show that David acquired 320 acres between 1824 and 1829.

David signed and filed his Last Will and Testament on the 13th of April 1835. His executors, Samuel Powell and Nimrod Dodson took inventory of David's stock and personal property on 22 July 1836, David having expired sometime between these two dates. David's will prescribed that his wife should have all his lands for her use during her natural life and that upon her death the lands to be sold and the monies to be divided equally amongst his eight boys.

His daughters were to receive shares equal to that of the boys from such stock and personal property as their mother thinks they need and she can spare.

Levina acquired another 53 acres in May 1837 and 5 of the boys, Moses, Henry, John, William and Jesse conveyed their rights to the lands to her between November 1838 and June 1840. On 6 June 1840 Levina placed 125 acres in a Deed of Trust to Nimrod Kell for her indebtness, said land being sold to the highest bidder by Nimrod Kell on 17 August 1841.

On 24 May 1841 David's 3 daughters forced a sale of personal property held by their mother to fulfill their inheritance. The daughters were to be paid before 25 December 1842. Levina possibly died prior to the 1850 Census. The only Overton still in Warren County during the 1850 census was a George Overton, age 35, a farmer residing with the H. H. Macon family.
