About David Paterson, 55th Governor of New York
David Paterson was the 55th Governor of New York. He was the first governor of New York of African American heritage and only the second legally blind governor of any U.S. state. He was the majority leader of the New York State Senate before he was elected as Elliot Spitzer's lieutenant governor. Paterson became governor on March 17, 2008 when Spitzer resigned.
