About David and James Prince:
A David Prince, Esq. is mentioned in History of Cumberland County, Maine by under Cumberland Center "Business Interests" as attending a town meeting on April 9, 1821 at the Congregationlist Meeting House, and who was the moderator of the meeting. James Prince was elected Town Clerk and sworn before Rev. Cyrus Cummings, Justice of the Peace; David Prince, William Buxton, and Beza Blanchard were elected Selectmen, Assessors and Overseers of the Poor. Capt. Ephraim Studivant was elected Treasurer, David is also listed the same year as a selectman on the Civil List, on the same page and publication.. David is also mentioned as an original member and deacon of the Second Congregational Church in North Yarmouth, now the Congregational Church of Cumberland, which was founded as an ecclesiatical body in 1793. James Prince is also a founding member.
On the same list, in 1824-1829, 1734-37 appears James Prince as a Selectman. James again appears 1842, 1844-45 as Selectman.
The next Prince to appear on the Civil List at Cumberland Center as Selectman is William L. Prince in 1859-1860.
Burying Grounds
The old burying ground was beside the church at Cumberland Center, was the oldest and contained most of the early dead, including the tomb of Eliphat Greely, founder of Greely Institute. An odd bit of of information comes next: "That in the west, the Methodist church, was opened in 1814. There is another (burying ground) on the Falmouth line, near the shore, and one on Chebeague Island."
