About David ben Yehuda ibn Yahya - Charlap
According to the "Das Jachia Dokument" Don David ben Yehuda was the last family member with the name Ibn Yahya in that lineage. Rabbi in Salonica and Constantinople.
The Hebrew name of the ancestors of the family was חייא - "Haya" or Chaya - of the Davidic lineage through the Exilarchs of Babilon (ראשי הגולה בבבל).
The meaning of the name HaRLP/ChRLP is the acronym in Hebrew חרל״פ: Haya/Chaya Rosh (head) Legolei (of the exile/diaspora) of Portugal or/and later Poland.
another (less likely) meaning might be:
CRLB == Chakhamim Rishon Lechamim l'Burtuqali (Portugal): Teachers and sages who were the first ones providing sustenance in Portugal.
Later revised to mean: CRLP == Chakhamim Rishon Lechamim l'Polin (Poland): Teachers and sages who were the first ones providing sustenance in Poland.
Due to the recent discoveries the writer hypothesizes that Don David came from Salonica and became a Rabbi of Deneburg. He gave rise to the two main family names: Don Yahya (Donchin) and Charlap (and variants) in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Also the author suspects that the title CHRLP ("the Wise Jew") was given by King Alfonso V to David's direct paternal ancestor: Yosef ben David ibn Yahya (1425-98) in fifteenth century.
