Dawid (54), was found dead by an employee inside his vehicle in the wheat fields of his Saltana-Oord farm in Karos, NC, on 10th November 2001. Police spokesperson, Superintendent Hendrik Swart said that police had initially suspected a suicide as Theron's shotgun was found lying beside his body with a gunshot wound to the head.

Further investigations, however, suggested he was shot with a heavy calibre firearm, prompting the manhunt involving a helicopter on Wednesday.

  • A man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a 54-year-old farmer, Johannes Theron, at Karos earlier this month. Superintendent Hendrik Swart of the Northern Cape police said the man was followed for several nights before being arrested at his hiding place, in undergrowth at the Orange River. A rifle and other stolen property were recovered.
