About Deac. Richard Garrett

Deacon Richard Garrett was the first town clerk of Scituate, Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts.

Richard was either christened or baptized on February 1, 1625 at St. Mary/Virgin, Dover, Kent, England. He could not have been born then, however, since he arrived in Scituate in 1634 and became town clerk in 1636. He married Lydia Tilden in about 1647.

Their children were:

  • Joseph, b. March 10, 1648; married Susanna Buck in 1684
  • John, b. November 25, 1651; married Ruth Buck on January 17, 1676
  • Mary, b. November 5, 1655
  • Richard, b. 1659; married Persis Peirce on December 3, 1695 in Scituate

Richard died in Boston, Massachusetts Bay Colony on March 3, 1662.
