About Deacon Benjamin J. Haygood
A Patriot of the American Revolution for NORTH CAROLINA with the rank of Private. DAR Ancestor # A052905
5) Regarding the burial locales of Benjamin Haygood and wife Mary Ann Stewart: there has been much question on this for years. My understanding is that there are markers for them both in Clarke Co. (present day Oconee Co.) at the Mars Hill Baptist Church and in Monroe Co., GA (Stroud Crossroads Cem) where they were residing at time of death. The concensus appears to be that they are actually buried in Stroud's Crossroads Cem in Monroe Co. and that memorial markers were placed near the headstone of their son William Haygood at the Mars Hill Baptist Church.
6) Regarding the Stewarts: the best information by far on them is printed in Aubrey Morris' new Haygood book. Mrs. Idalyn Stinson (who may now be deceased) of Miami Springs, FL was the major contributor on this. She was a descendant of my Appleton Haygood (I think by his 2nd wife). Mrs. Stinson was a wonderful genealogist and spent decades researching this family. BTW, "Old" James Stewart, the Scottish immigrant and gf of Mary Ann Stewart Haygood, left a very interesting will in Cumberland Co., NC. As you may already know, his son James (father of Mary Ann) was also a Rev. soldier.
