About Deacon Benoni Learned
Benoni, probably so named because he was born on the day of his father's death or within a day or two of the event. "The excellent Deacon Benoni Learned," says Rev. Mr. Morse, "served Sherborn as treasurer, selectman, representative in the general court, and for a long period in his early history his name was conspicuous, and it is evident that he was a man of sound and sonsistent piety. He was early in Sherborn and resided where the late Dr. Wythe resided. He was one of the signers to petition for the settlement of difficulties in regard to the meeting house, to enable the people to settle Mr. Daniel Gookin, Oct. 13, 1680. "
Benoni was born before 17 October 1657 and was christened on 17 October 1657 at Chelmsford, Middlesex, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Isaac Learned and Mary Stearns. He married Mary Fanning on 18 June 1680 at Sherborn, Massachusetts.2,3 He married Sarah Wright circa 1690 at Sherborn, Massachusetts.2,3 Benoni died on 10 April 1738 at Sherborn, Massachusetts.4
Married Mary Fanning on June 18, 1680. She died in childbirth on October 14, 1688.
