Deberra S. Chapman is the son of Deberra David Chapman (1752-1814) and Mary Cross (1755-1813) Originally from North Carolina his family was found in Baldwin County, Georgia.
The Name Deberra was passed on to each generation with the exact spelling each time.
It's pronounced “Deborah” although some speculate De-Berry.
Chapman married Sarah “Sally” Slaughter; she was a widow of Candler. The union took place in Baldwin County, Georgia on May 30, 1819.
Deberra served in the war of 1812 as a private in Jenkins, 2nd Regiment of Georgia Volunteer Militia. It was believed that Sarah’s husband who also served in 1812 had died of injuries, this is why she was in Baldwin County as well when they met.
Sarah’s family was from Villa Rica, Georgia. Her father was Dr. Slaughter and he owned a store house in Hixtown. Because of her inheritance they moved to Villa Rica.
Chapman’s brother also married Sarah’s sister Prudence.
The year 1832 Chapman and family are located in Captain Mullins District of Carroll County.
The year of 1850 his large farm showed to be in Division 11, Carroll County, which would be located in Villa Rica. He had a large number of farm animals (2 horses, 4 milked cows, 2 oxen, 10 other cattle, 4 sheep, 45 swine).
It was the cold afternoon of December 28, 1857 he was shot in Carroll County, Georgia by Thomas D. Wallis at the age of 63.
Certain information is unknown at this time.
But a newspaper report; date June 15, 1858 states:
