She married Chas Brown in June 1806 and lived on his land at Onondaga Hollow, Three River Point on the Seneca River; At that time, laws of the state of New York did not allow an alien to hold the right of Fee Simple. In the spring of 1810, Deborah’s husband started to the Mecca of the West, the New Connecticut, where he was told he could have right of Fee Simple in his name.

He arrived at Salem, Now Conneaut, early in June 1810. In the Spring of 1811, he contracted for some land in Kingsville township and in 1813, he held the deed thereof in his hand.

In winter of 1815-1816, in company with Annan Harmon, he returned to NY State and built a schooner named “Fire Fly”. Deborah remained all this time at Onondaga Hollow.
