Delana was born in New York, 1820. She was the sixth of thirteen children. Her family were early members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At least eight of her siblings came to Utah. They were living in Far West, Missouri, when, at age eighteen, she married Davis Dudley. They were living in Illinois when their first child was born. Then more tragedy struck. William passed away on December 23, 1842 in Adams County, Illinois, leaving Delana “Lana” a young widow with child. Their second child was born on March 2, 1843. Life was hard for Delana, for fortunately she was with her family. On August 3, 1845, she married William Ford in Nauvoo, Hancock County, Illinois. They suffered the persecutions in that area and were at Mt. Pisgah when their first child was born in October, 1846. They were in Council Bluffs when their second child was born, a daughter, they named Sarah Ann. Delana’s father had passed away in November, 1845 in Green Plains, Hancock, Illinois, and now her dear mother passed away in May, 1850 at Musketol Creek, Pottawattamie, Iowa. The Durfee, Dudley, and Ford families were on the move westward to join the Saints in Utah. William and Delana, along with the four children, joined the Edward Hunter Wagon Company leaving Kanesville, Iowa on July 4, 1850 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on October 13, 1850. They made their home in Provo. Delana was asked to live the law of plural marriage as William married Elizabeth Lucena Mecham in 1853 in Salt Lake City and Mary Jane March/Marsh on March 5, 1857. They suffered through the grasshopper plague, the Indian depredations and Johnston’s Army. Then tragedy struck again for Delana. William passed away on August 4, 1860 in Provo, Utah, Utah. Delana and family moved to Wallsburg to be near her family. She was active in her ward and worked hard to raise her family. She passed away at the age of seventy-five in Wallsburg, Wasatch, Utah, having been a widow for twenty-five years.
