About Delbert Dean Romig
Delbert D. Romig, 73, of Independence, Kansas passed away Wednesday morning, June 09, 2004 at the South Crest Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Delbert was born August 31, 1930 in Independence, Kansas to Wilmer C. and Stella M. Surber-Romig. He was the youngest of three children. He attended a one room school at Irish Creek. He attended and graduated from Independence High School in 1949. He farmed and raised livestock most of his life. He worked from 1950 to 1953 at the KAAP Weapons Plant in Parsons, Kansas and Continental Can Co. in Coffeyville, Kansas. He later worked in a lumberyard and locker plant around Boulder, Colorado and worked for Morrison-Knutson Construction Co. as a miner digging holes for Minuteman missiles around Pine Bluffs, Wyoming and sites near Langdon, North Dakota. He also worked on the Robert S. Kerr dam, lock and powerhouse at Sallisaw, Oklahoma. In 1968 he came back to Cherryvale, Kansas and worked at the KAAP where he ran a switch engine. In 1989 he worked at Emerson Electric Co for 19 years, making motors as a maintenance supervisor. Following his retirement he worked for the Four County Mental Health , the Montgomery County Sheriff?s Dept. and a consultant at Emerson Electric. He was previously married to Claire Y. Tucker and Gracie Kinnamon. On January 30, 1988, Delbert married Susan Moulton and she survives of the home. He was a member of the Morgantown Grange and the First Church of God, Neodesha, Kansas. Delbert is also survived by four sons, Tom Romig and his wife, Sandra of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, Glen Romig and his wife, Becky of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, Terry Romig and his wife, Sandra of Burlington, Kansas and Bill Romig and his wife, Kori of Holly Springs, North Carolina; five daughters, Mary Bradshaw and her husband, Steve of Hickory, North Carolina, May Byer of Great Bend, Kansas, Connie Catron and her husband, Dennis of Neodesha, Kansas, Sherry Welch and Carol Moulton both of Independence, Kansas; one sister, Edith Nealis and her husband, Leonard of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; twenty nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Grace Inman and her husband, Ernie and two great grandchildren. Visitation hours for Delbert will be held Sunday, June 13, 2004 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Monday, June 14, 2004 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Webb & Rodrick Funeral Chapel of Independence. Funeral services for Delbert D. Romig will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 14, 2004 at the First Church of God, 816 Iowa, Neodesha, Kansas with the Reverend Leslie Griffith officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kansas
