April 25, 1944: Fifteen people, 10 of them civilians, die when a four-engine Royal Air Force Liberator crashes and plows into six houses in Montreal's Griffintown.

From the Montreal Star for April 26, 1944: the front page reports one of the dead as Mrs Delia Dowling, 36, of 1036 Ottawa St.

"Margaret Dowling, 16, was in an uptown dress factory when news of the crash reached her. She rushed to her home at 1036 Ottawa Street, to find that her mother was among the dead. 'This morning mother got up early and gave me my breakfast and that was the last time I saw her alive', she said. 'Father died nine years ago and mother and I were living together on Ottawa street - now, she's gone too' "
