Delmer was born a twin, in a family of 17 brothers & sisters.
He fibbed about his age to join the Navy during World War II and with steady advancement through the ranks during his 24yr. career. He served as a submariner, with tours in Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Philippines and Hawaii. He was in the orginal crew of the first nuclear-powered submarine, commanded by future president Jimmy Carter.
Delmer retired as a lieutenant commander at Point Sur Naval Facility Station in Big Sur, Calif. After his retirementf, he was foreman at Rancho Rico for many years. He moved to Carmel Valley and worked at Wester Volkswagen as service adviser, then as a claims adjuster for AAA insurance co. before retiring. He enjoyed the ocean, sailing, woodworking, gardening & boating the Caribbean.
