Denis Gaudet 1657 and Marie Blanchard 1656 Named Two of Their children Pierre My name is Laurie Robillard and my mother is Jacqueline Vincent an Acadian line. The connection from Gaudet and Vincent isthat Pierre Vincent b 1631 married Marie Anne Gaudet. her father was Denis Gaudet b 1625. These people immigrated from France and were Catholic. Most did not know how to read and write. They were family centered and hard workers. They had a particular way of farming. They pushed back the sea by building dykes and planted wheat and other grains in the marshland. They were also soldiers fighting the British when France was at war fighting England. They needed large families to upkeep the dykes built of wood and mud. Denis Gaudet born 1625 (my direct line) and his wife Anne Martine Gauthier(my direct line) named two of their sons Pierre. Why? Pierre Gaudet L'aine (meaning the eldest) born 1682 in Port Royal, Acadie (now Annapolis Royal,Nova Scotia) and Pierre Gaudet Lejeune meaning the Youngest born in 1654n Port Royal, Acadie (now Annapolis Royal) Back then if one child died they would name the next the same name. This isn't the case both of the son's grew up to create a family of theirown. The father's name is Denis so it wasn't to keep the family name. They must have given nicknames to those kids to differentiate the two. Maybe Pierrot for the oldest or Pitree or petit Pierre forthe youngest. Pierre Gaudet Lejeune married 1674 at age 20 in Port Royal, Acadie (now Annapolis Royal) to Marie Blanchard born 1656 in Port Royal, her parents Jean Baptist Blanchard born 1611 and Radegonde Lambert born 1621 (her mother was Indian) . Pierre Gaudet L'ainer married in abt 1673 at Port Royal, Acadie (now Annapolis Royal) to Anne-Marie Blanchard born 1644 in Port Royal, Acadie. She isolder than him by 14 years. Her parents Jean Baptiste Blanchard born 1611 and mother Marie Radegonde Lambert born 1621. To make things more complicated for genealogist the two brothers named five of their children by the same name. Pierre of course, Denis, Jean, Marie Anne Jeanne. I can understand both brothers wanted to keep the name Denis and Pierre in the family but other than that why copycat. Starting with Pierre Gaudet L'ainee 1652-1714 married to Anne-Marie Blanchard 1644- after 1714. They had 9 children. Pierre b.1674 the dad was 22 yrs so they must have gotten married abt 1673, Claude, Antoine, twins Marie Anne and Madeleine Marie ,Jeanne, Denis, Augustin, Jean. Back then the men tended the farms, fishing, planting ,harvesting, and hunting, trading fur trade or surplus wheat withBoston. The strong women raised the kids practically on their own. Next Pierre Gaudet Lejeune 1654-1741 married to Marie Blanchard in 1674 in Port Royal had 10 children. Pierre 1676 married MadeleinePellerin, Antoine 1978 married Marie Louise Bourg, Germain 1680 , Guillaume 1683 married Marie Boudrot, Denis 1685 married Anne Doucet, Marie Marguerite 1688 married Bernard Germain, Jean 1690 married Marie Madeleine Brun, Bernard 1692 married Marguerite Pellerin and Marie Doucet, Marie Anne 1694 married Jean Baptist Prejean, Jeanne 1698 married Alexandre Pellerin. All the children were born at Port Royal, Acadie. Five of their children married into the Pellerin family and two of their children into the into the Pellerin family and two of their children into the Doucet family. They all married in Port royal except for two who got married in Beaubassin.
