  • Update 06/12/2022: Seven accused, Derrick Makamo, Rawul Mhlanga, Sifiso Madonsela, Solomon Msimango, Oscar Chauke, Hendry Manonga and Fanie Mkhabela, are expected to be sentenced this week for Deon's murder. They were found guilty on September 23 on charges of murder and attempted murder.
  • Susan de Bruyn will submit a victim impact report in the High Court in Mbombela on Tuesday to increase the punishment of her son's murderers.

• On 5th December 2022, Deon's mother Susan said; "The case has been postponed repeatedly for various reasons in the past four years, which not only had an emotional effect, but also entailed financial implications. With each court appearance, the family had to find someone to staff their business and drive miles to court."
