About Diana Diora Severence Chase Young, Plural-Wife of Mormon Leader Brigham Young
Diana Severance Chase was born 25 Jul 1827, in Bristol, Vermont.
Diana was baptized and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints when she was a young girl. She received her endowments in the Nauvoo Temple before coming to Utah.
She married Brigham Young on October 10, 1844 in Nauvoo, Illinois. On June 9, 1842, she became a member of the Relief Society at the eleventh meeting of the organization.
On May 26. 1848, she left Winter Quarters with a company of Saints under the direction of Brigham Young until they reached the Elkhom River. There a company of Saints was waiting to be organized for the trip to Great Salt Lake Valley. Early in June, they broke camp and started their exodus with Lorenzo Snow appointed as their captain. They arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on September 30, 1848.
Brigham Young had who apparently taken Diana as a wife temporarily for her protection as an unmarried woman crossing the plains. She later divorced him and then married (2) William Montgomery Shaw on 1 Jan 1849.
Diana died on 6 September, 1886 in Ogden, Weber, Utah.
