Diego Rodríguez, or Diego Ruiz (c. 10751 - August 15, 1097),2 was the son of Rodrigo Díaz, called elCampeador in life and later El Cid.

El Cid must have taken him with him in his exile since it is not known that he remained with his mother and sisters in Castile. According to this hypothesis, he fought with his father in the actions that culminated in the conquest of Valencia.

He died in the Battle of Consuegra fighting against the Almoravids. Gonzalo Martínez Diez3 argues the testimonies of the First General Chronicle alfonsí (oEstoria de España) and the Liber regum (actually from the Linaje of Rodrigo Díaz, included in the extensive version of the Liber regum),4 "very well informed" in his opinion:

Este Mio Cid, el Campiador, ovo por mugier a doña Eximena, nieta del rey don Alfonso, filla del comde don Diago de Asturias, et ovo della un fillo et dos fillas, et el fillo ovo nombre Diago Royz, et matáronlo en Consuegra los moros; de las fillas, la una. Liber regum, (1194-1209). Apud Martínez Diez, loc. cit

Since 1997, in Consuegra, his death has been commemorated annually with a funeral ceremony.5

Diego Rodríguez, o Diego Ruiz, (1076? - 15 de agosto de 1097) fue hijo de Rodrigo Díaz, llamado el Cid Campeador.

Debió de llevarlo consigo el Cid en su destierro ya que no consta que permaneciera con su madre e hermanas en Castilla. Según esta hipótesis, luchó junto a su padre en las acciones que culminaron con la conquista de Valencia.

Murió en la Batalla de Consuegra luchando contra los almorávides. Gonzalo Martínez Diez arguye los testimonios de la Primera Crónica General alfonsí (o Estoria de España) y del Liber regum, este último «muy bien informado» a su juicio:

<<Este Mio Cid, el Campiador, ovo por mugier a doña Eximena, nieta del rey don Alfonso, filla del comde don Diago de Asturias, et ovo della un fillo et dos fillas, et el fillo ovo nombre Diago Royz, et matáronlo en Consuegra los moros; de las fillas, la una ovo nombre de doña Christina, la otra doña María.>>

Desde 1997 en Consuegra se conmemora anualmente su muerte con una ceremonia funeraria.
