About Dinah Mace Hartley

Dinah Mace Howe was born in England in 1830,she came to New Zealand at the age of 12 years sailing on the " Clifton " with her parents,John and Elizabeth Howe,her one year old sister and her four brothers,William,John,Amos,and Aaron age ten, eight,six and four respectively.Dinah grew to be a girl with dark hair and roundly built figure,and in 1842 at the age of sixteen,she married " Stephen Charles Hartley " by that time she had done her best to learn all she could about nursing and the use of medicine. Stephen Charles Hartley was always known as Charles. He was a very big man, very strong and virile and hot tempered when young. Born in 1823 at Falmouth, England.He was the son of " Stephen Charles Hartley "and his wife Mary [ nee Langston ] who was a sister of the artist [ David Langston R.A.]
