NOTES

1. Pearson gives Marten Janse two wives, with children being born as late as 1724 at which time Marten would be in his 70s. At his marriage to Cornelia in 1705, Marten is not listed as a widower, which would suggest he was marrying for the first time. Barker, in his compilation of this family, places Marten Janse (husband of Cornelia) as a son to Marten Janse and Jannetje. The baptismal sponsors at the christening of Marten and Cornelia's children support this placement, but his patronymic of Janse (son of Jan) does not. I checked the 9 baptisms for his children found in the Albany Church records and discovered that Marten does not have a patronymic recorded with any. This leaves his marriage record in question since the patronymic of Jansen assigned to him in this record may be faulty. Interested researchers should use this data with caution and attempt to verify with primary records

Dirckje arrived in America with her husband Jan Martinse Van Alstyne around 1655 from Meppel, Holland. She married him in 1646 in Holland. Jan was off on business very often so Dirckje is credited with much of the success of the pair. They were large land owners and had many children. Tradition has it that they are buried under the Dutch church here. See the Van Alstine Family History book by Lester Van Alstine. Her granddaughter, Dirkje married Albert Roeleffe VanDerwerker.
