Doctor William Balmain, Free Settler "Alexander" 1788

William BALMAIN was born 2/2/1762 Balhephurn, Rhynd, Perthshire, Scotland (son of Alexander BALMAIN and Jean HENDERSON)

William was an Assistant Surgeon in Royal Navy and he arrived in Sydney Cove on 26/1/1788 on "Alexander"

William was sent to Norfolk Island in October 1791 on "Atlantic"

William had a relationship with Margaret DAWSON / HENDERSON and had the following children

• Ann 29/5/1794
• Jane 29/3/1797
• John William 20/8/1800
• daughter November 1803 in England (born on the day of his funeral)

In August 1795 William and Margaret, and Ann left Norfolk Island on "Fancy" for Sydney

In October 1800 daughter Jane was sent to England with Governor Hunter

On 26/8/1801 William, Margaret and son John left the colony for England on "Albion"

William died 17/11/1803 London (and his daughter was born on the same day as he was buried)

William left his property to his defacto Margaret and their 3 children
