About Dominador Aytona

Senator Dominador R. Aytona was born on May 23, 1918 in Liboon, Albay to Jose Ataviado Aytona and Vivencia Cerdon Rosauro.

As a self-supporting student, Aytona finished with high honors his primary and intermediate school education at the Albay Training Department and his teaching course at the Albay Normal School.

In 1935, Aytona obtained a teaching job at Vinsons ( then Indan ) Camarines Norte. Three years he married a co-teacher, Magdalena Raro.

Shortly after their marriage, the couple decided to try their luck in Manila. Aytona worked as clerk in the General Auditing Office during the day and studied at night at the University of Manila. At UM were he was a constant scholar and an outstanding student and gold medalist, Aytona obtained three degrees.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (1947), summa cum laude; Bachelor of Laws (1949), magna cum laude; and master of Laws (1951), cum laude. He took the bar examination in 1950 and copped second place with a general rating of 94.55%.

Aytona was promoted from clerk to budget examiner, field auditor. fiscal statician, chief of section and to bureau auditor.

In 1950, the Senate drafted Aytona as financial adviser in which position he became acquainted with then Rep. Ramon Magsaysay of Zambales.

On January 1, 1954, President Magsaysay appointed Aytona, at the age of 36,. as Commissioner of the Budget.

In 1960, President Garcia named Aytona as Secretary of Finance which carried the concurrent position of Chairman of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank.

Senator Aytona served the Senate from 1965-1971.
