About Don Emiliano Canciller Evangelista
Don Emiliano Canciller Evangelista: Haciendero, Politician, and Revolutionary
Don Emiliano Canciller Evangelista was born on February 8, 1867, in Candaba, Pampanga. He was the eldest child of haciendero Don Santiago Canciller Evangelista and Doña Antonia Alonzo. He was a member of the Evangelista Clan, a Principalia Family and one of the largest landowners in Pampanga during the Spanish Colonial Rule.
Don Emiliano was active in the political and social life of Candaba. In the late 1800s, he served as Cabeza de Barangay and Delegado de Hacienda.
A staunch nationalist, Don Emiliano was strongly against American domination in the Philippines. He held the rank of Major in the Philippines’ resistance against the United States in the Philippine-American War (1899-1902).
In 2023, Don Emiliano Canciller Evangelista’s life was immortalized in the Evangelista Clan book, “Recuerdos de Candaba: Casa de Evangelista, Familia Principalia.”
