"Donald McRae Came to Canada at age five landed in Montreal and stayed there until Donald was a young man. He and Kenneth McGregor then took up land at Kintail, Ashfield, Ontario. Donald married Kenneth's sister Mary McGregor and Kenneth married Donald's sister Margaret McRae. Another sister married Donald McGregor. A brother Alex went to the West Indies.
The family came to Minnesota in 1870 where they lived for a year at Barnesville (?) Murdoch died on the way and was burried at Duluth. In the spring of 1871 the family came to Manitoba and settled at Woodside
[ In the Tribune Review in July 1886] - Mr Donald Macrae of Woodside died on Tuesday morning, July the 18th, 1886, aged 76 years, after a long illness. Coming to Manitoba in the year 1871, he settled at Woodside. He was highly respected by all, especially by the old settlers, who always appreciated the many pleasant evenings spent with him and his family. He leaves behind a highly respected family.”
In book Third Crossing(Fahni and Morton), he is listed as a farmer, Township 13, Range 10 West in the First Manitoba Directory, 1876-1877, along with his sons, Alexander, Hector and Donald (Dan).
