BIOGRAPHY Donald Maclean, styled 'the Hunter', 1st of Ardgour, was born about 1411, the illegitimate son of Lachlan Maclean, 3rd of Duart, and Margaret Maclean. Donald married Evere Cameron, daughter of Ewen Cameron of Lochiel, and they had at least two sons, Ewen and Neil, both of whom would have progeny.
Donald, with the help of his uncle and tutor Farquhar Maclean, 2nd of Kingairloch, extirpated his cousin John Macdonad of Ardgour, styled _Iain Mac a'Mhaighstir_ or Nacmaster, whose lands he seized and for which he obtained a grant from John Macdonald, Lord of the Isles and Earl of Ross. In 1494 this grant was confirmed after the dissolution of the Lordship of the Isles by King James IV.
