About Donald Albert Wassmer
Don Wassmer-
He was a free spirit when he was growing up. One day he just ran away and went to California. About a year later he came back and had almost died, He didn't have anything to eat.
The typical day as a child was in and out of the house all day. We had to get out of bed in the morning and have oatmeal mush for breakfast and out you went. Play until it was dark and come back in time to go to bed, that was it. We didn't have much else, we couldn't afford much else. When the ice man would come we would follow him and chip some ice off before he caught us and run. That was a treat. when I was older I started playing softball with my friends. Once in a while we would go up to Wolf Creek Summit with Uncle Will and stay the night
Don had lots of bowel problems and had multiple surgeries on his stomach and intestines. Some years after his surgery he built up scar tissue and had to have another surgery.
