Doreen Hester Liebenberg (1948 - 2007)

Brief overview:

Doreen (58), who lived alone in Tolbos Street, Randpark Ridge, Randburg, was found in a shallow grave in her garden on Monday 26th February 2007. Her daughter, Jaqui (26), who lives in Cape Town, had been trying to contact her from Saturday 24th. When she was unable to she contacted the Randburg police. The police believing that she was being paranoid did not assist at the time, so Jaqui began calling all the hospitals in the area.

By Monday morning, Jaqui still had not heard anything so she flew up to Johannesburg, where she met three female detectives and a police dog unit at her mothers house. Doreen's body was found in a shallow grave between the gardener's sleeping quarters and the yard's wall.

At that stage, it was not clear how Doreen was killed or if anything was stolen.

According to Jaqui, the gardener had been working for her mother since October 2006, and also lived on the property. Her mother apparently hired him after being referred by someone who goes to church with her. "She trusted him with everything. She went away a lot and he would look after the house," said Jaqui.
