Dorothea Merriman

Dorothea Foote married Roger Merriman in Boston on June 2, 1904. She was the daughter of the Reverend Henry Wilder Foote at King's Chapel, Boston, and Frances (Eliot) Foote. Her maternal grandfather was a U.S. Representative and Mayor of Boston, Samuel Atkins Eliot.

Their children: 1. Lieutenant Commander Roger B., Jr., b. 29 April 1905 2. Dr. Daniel, director of the Bingham Oceanographic Laboratory at Yale from 1942-1966, b. 1909 3. Frances, b. 07 Mar 1913, died 27 Oct. 1917 4. Dorothea Foote (Ethan A. H.) Sims, b. 13 Nov. 1916 5. Helen Prudence (Mason) Fernald, b. Jan. 23, 1920 The family lived and traveled in Europe for many years when Professor Merriman was giving lectures.
