Dorothea Washington was born on May 6, 1778 in Virginia, United States. Her parents were Francis Thornton, IV of "Fall HIll" and Ann Thornton.

Dorothea married Captain Samuel T Washington in 1795 in Virginia, United States. Together they had the following children:
