Dorothy “Dolly” Buffet

Dorothy Young was born in 1797 at Pitcairn Island. She was the daughter of Edward Young and Mauatua (?). She married John Buffett on 10 February 1824 at Pitcairn Island. She died on 24 April 1863 at Norfolk Island. Dorothy Young also went by the nick-name of Dolly. From 10 February 1824, her married name became Buffett. When Captain Beechey visited Pitcairn in 1808, she was part of the 'Pitcairn Island Band'. She played a gourd with a longitudinal slit at one end, beating a rapid tattoo with her hands.
