About Dorothy Denison
DENISON GENEALOGY, ANCESTORS AND DESCENDANTS OF CAPTAIN GEORGE DENISON, Of Stonington Connecticut, by John Denison Baldwin and William Clift, Worcester, MA, 1881, p 7
HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF STONINGTON, County of New London, Connecticut, from its first settlement in 1649 to 1900, by Richard Anson Wheeler, New London, CT, 1900, p. 578, 579
1. Early history provides conflicting information for Dorothy's marriages after Joseph Lynde. From our Stanton source:
"Now as to the second marriage of the widow Dorothy (Stanton) Lynde t here is a direct issue of authorities. Wyman's Hist. of Charlestown and the Charlestown Church records agr ee that she m. 2nd, John Trerice, Senior, of Charlestown, who d. soon afterward.
Baldwin says that 'she m. 2nd John Frink, Jr., who died in 1718; and 3rd, Robert Denison of Montville.' He records her children by these two marriages as William Frink, Thankful Frink, Esther Frink, George Denison and DorothyDenison.
In a letter to me, written Jan. 10, 1889, by Mr. Edw. D. Harris of N ew York, he says of the above record, 'She was married to a Frink -- not I believe, John, but Thomas. The children of John Frink given in Baldwin had another mother -- if I remember she was Grace. I can find no births or baptisms of any children born to her and Frink in Stonington -- nor can I find any documentary proof of the marriage. Nor can I find the marriage record of the widow Dorothy Frink and Robert Denison.
The Denison Genealogy stat es it as a fact, but the author, Rev. Mr. Clift, cannot give me his authority. However, our family tradition confirms the statement, and there is a strong probability that she died in the family of her daughter Amy at Norwich, at a very advanced age -- our family papers say 105.'"
The referenced "John Frink, Jr." is John Frink, III, born 1671 who married Hannah Prentice 1693/94 and had a number of children with him before they both died in 1717/18. The "Thomas" Frink mentioned above cannot be identifed as known Frink family men named Thomas are accounted for with marriages in the 1700 to 1710 period.
All published dates allow for four marriages which are recorded here with "Mr" Frink recorded for the third marriage.
