Dorothy LaRue Dittman
Dorothy LaRue Dittman, 83, of Knox, died at 4:54 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2005, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca, following an extended illness.
Born May 27, 1922, at home on Pope Town Road, Knox, she was the daughter of Ernest E. and Margaret J. Detwiller Meier.
Mrs. Dittman attended public schools and was a graduate of the White Memorial High School in Knox.
She was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Ninevah and was active in many capacities in a variety of church functions.
Mrs. Dittman was a homemaker and an excellent cook. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and tending to her flower beds, sitting on her porch and watching birds and animals, mowing the lawn and working in the yard.
She was the owner and operator of Dittman Fabric and Yarn Shop from 1977-1987. She also served as a bookkeeper for Dittman Precision Balls and Seals.
Mrs. Dittman was married in Shippenville Nov 28, 1942, to Neil E. Dittman, who survives.
Also surviving are six children, Gerald "Jerry" Dittman and wife, Rose, of Parker, Margaret "Peggy" Weaver and husband, Daniel, of Knox, Terry L. Dittman and wife, Karen, of Knox, Mary Catherine "Cathy" O'Neill and husband, Terry, of Brookville, Gary E. Dittman of Knox and Timothy J. "Bow" Dittman and wife, Sandy, of Knox; 13 grandchildren, Chris, Melissa, Jeremy, Gina, Danielle, Lonnie, Lance, Jody, Catrina, Kevin, Clint, Angie and Amanda; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She also is survived by a special friend, Lucretia "Sis" Dittman of Knox, two brothers, Donald Meier and wife, Betty, of Conneautville, Ohio, and Gerald "Jerry" Meier and wife, Freda, of Knox; two sisters, Nancy Elder and husband, Raymond, and Linda Wagner and husband Richard, all of Knox; two sisters-in-law, Joann Meier Rowe and Sue Meier, both of Knox; and two brothers-in-law, Homer Henry and Jim (Shirley) Dittman, all of Knox; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dittman was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jacob and Louisa Meier; two brothers, Robert and Kenneth Meier; and a granddaughter, Jaime Ray.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p m. today in the David C. McEntire Funeral Home, Ohio & Penn Streets, Knox. Visitation also will be held from 10 to 11 Saturday in the Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Ninevah. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Richard Osberg, pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Cedarview Memorial Park, near Strattanville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Ninevah.
