Obituary

Fleming, Dorothy Lanners Born December 9, 1920 in St. Paul, MN and died December 21, 2010 in Sun Lakes, AZ with her husband of 66 years Nils H. Fleming Jr. at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Helga Lanners, her sister and brother-in-law Eugene and Betty Maker of North Branch, her brother Donald J. Lanners of San Diego, and her son-in-law James E. Moon of Minneapolis. She was survived by her loving husband, her daughter Bonnie of Minneapolis and her son Nils H. III and his wife Patricia of Vadnais Heights and five grandchildren, Kathryn, Mark, Nikolas, David and Robert and her very special niece Lauren Maker of Minneapolis, as well as other beloved nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law Joyce Lanners of San Diego, CA.

Dorothy was gifted with a beautiful voice. She graduated with a degree in music from Hamline University, received her Masters in vocal education from the University and completed credits toward her Ph.D. She also studied in Vienna Austria, London and Mexico City. She performed frequently as a soloist and conductor. She taught for over thirty years, the last twenty at Johnson High School where she was chairperson of the music department. In addition to being a wonderful role model when there were so few, she was a woman who cared fiercely for her family, a beloved daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. Even though her home was in Arizona, she never really left Minnesota. The family thanks the wonderful caregivers who always went the extra mile for her. Services were held privately. Memorials to the American Heart Association.
