About Dorothy M. Geis
Dorothy was born to John F. and Theresa Baune Schmidt, March 21, 1919, at Fenn. The family moved to a farm one mile south of Denver, Idaho, where she grew up and attended school.
After graduation from grade school, she went to St. Gertrude's Academy before beginning work in various homes and taking correspondence courses from American School.
She married Xavier (Sabie) Geis Oct. 8, 1940. The couple had two sons, Frank and John X; they lived in Winchester during the war and she baby-sat the children of the working moms. They then lived in Kamiah, before settling in Lewiston with a couple of years spent on a ranch in Paradise, Ore.
Dorothy always raised a big garden and did income taxes for many years. Upon Sabie's retirement in 1977, they traveled throughout the world until the year before his death Oct. 25, 1987. She then resumed traveling for another eight years, before health problems forced her to quit.
She loved visiting with family and friends. Her in-laws were very special to her. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing and reading.
She is survived by her sons, Frank and wife Irma of Post Falls, and John and wife Vicki of Grangeville; granddaughters, Kelly and husband Lloyd Land of Clarkston, Jonna and husband Jim Rossitor of Lewiston, Lori and Matt Wicks of Colville, Wash.; six great-grandchildren; step-granddaughter, Dioncia and husband Ron Miles of Everett, Wash.; and two step-great-granddaughters.
Dorothy was preceded in death by a sister, Cathy Ryan, as well as her parents.
