Dorothy Elizabeth Shows Gravette was born on Dec. 10, 1921, in Luverne, Ala., to Anna Ida Stagers Shows and William Warren Levy Shows. She was one of nine children. Dorothy left her earthly home to be with her Lord on July 5, 2010.

Dorothy was an avid doll maker and collector and was an active member of both the Tyler Doll Maker's Club and the Tyler Doll Club. Not only was Dorothy a maker of dolls but she designed and made their clothes as well. Dolls were a true passion for Dorothy.

During her life Dorothy visited all 50 states and several European countries as a military wife and vacationing during retirement. She worked at a rehabilitation center for special-needs children and later taught ceramic and porcelain doll classes, but her most important role was that of a mother. She deeply loved her family.

Dorothy was very active with her children in both the Boy and Girl Scouts of America and attended church regularly. She was a devout Baptist.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Charles C. Gravette, and was the last of her siblings.

Pallbearers include family members.

Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. July 9th at Lloyd James Funeral Chapel. Her burial will follow in Memorial Chapel.

Published in the Tyler Morning Telegraph on July 8, 2010.
