About Dorothy Ann Lawler

Published in the Athens Review September 27, 1945
Mrs. Dorothy Lawler, 76, of Athens, was killed Tuesday afternoon about 4:30 o'clock just a short distance from her home when she was struck by an east-bound passenger train on the Cotton Belt tracks about one hundred feet east of the West Corsicana Street underpass.
The train was pulling in to Athens and was about three blocks from the station.
Orrell Manning, manager of the Carroll and Lehr Funeral Home , who answered the emergency call, said that Mrs. Lawler was walking on the right-of-way at the time of the accident. He said she was knocked clear of the tracks. Her neck was broken and the left side of her body was badly crushed.
She was born on April 5, 1868, in Mississippi, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carnie Ammons of that state, and had been a resident of Athens for the last four years.
Surviving are her husband, Will Lawler, Athens; six daughters, Mrs. Helen Butler and Mrs. Connie Smith of Glendale, California, Mrs. Daphine Harvill, Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Alice Thorpe of Fort Worth, Mrs. Hattie Emerson of Brownsboro and Mrs. Eunice Boyd of Edom; one son, Tom Lawler, in the Army; fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Edom Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Duckett of Athens officiating. Burial will be in the Edom cemetery.
The Carroll and Lehr Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
