Dorothy M. "Dolly" Pennell, 83, died at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Manor Care Health Services South. She was the wife of the late Richard G. Pennell.
Born April 6, 1927, in Port Royal, she was a daughter of the late John and AdaLena (Kinzer) Boyer. After her children were grown, Mrs. Pennell earned her real estate license and worked as a realtor in the York area for 24 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of York, where was a volunteer for The Caring Company. She was also a volunteer at York Hospital and actively served on the York County Republican Committee.
Mrs. Pennell is survived by two sons, Richard G. Pennell, Jr. and his wife, Patty of Folsom, Calif., and Edred J. Pennell and his wife, Nancy of Wrightsville; a daughter, Nancy P. Lyon and her husband, Layton, of York; five grandchildren, Elisabeth Hamberger, Andrea Pennell, Sarah Pennell, Carly Lyon, and Shelby Lyon; two stepgrandchildren, Christopher Reidel and Michelle Arroyo; and three step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Harold, and George Boyer; and a sister, Marian Hemperley.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 S. George St., York (the former Hahn Home). Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of York, 225 E. Market St., York, with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. John E. Morgan, officiating. A reception with the family will immediately follow at Kuhner Associates.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Caring Company of First Presbyterian Church, 225 E. Market St., York, PA 17403; or a charity of choice.
