Funeral services for Dorothy Jewell (Henson) Pierce, 81, a longtime Atoka resident, were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. August 15 at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel in Atoka with Rev. James Crowson officiating. Burial was in Green Meadows Cemetery under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service in Atoka. She died Sunday, August 13, 2000, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. Born at Wetumka, Okla. on May 4, 1919, she was the daughter of John C. and Ona (Shamblin) Henson. She had attended school in Wetumka and worked as a clerk at Henson's Inc. for many years. She was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church. She was married to Casto David Pierce at Calera on September 25,1938. He preceded her in death August 24,1976. Also preceding her in death were her parents, John and Ona Henson; a brother, Frank Henson; three sisters, Evelyn Strickland, Lorene Burnett and Cora Laughlin; two nephews, Harold Kuykendall, and B. G. Burnett; and two nieces, Wilena Clapp and Mildred Crabtree. Survivors include one sister, Helen Brady, a special sister-in-law, Fannie Henson, a nephew, J. D. Brady and wife Thelma all of Atoka; three nieces, Kathleen Barton and husband, Lloyd, of Atoka; Joyce Meeks and husband, Bob, Electra, Texas; and Jo Ann Ables of Lindsay; a niece-in-law, Patty Burnett; along with a number of great nieces and nephews. Honorary pall bearers were Ira Riley, Monroe Cochran, Wes Moore and Paul Howard. Active pall bearers were Mike Daniel, Paul David Moore, Curtis Belcher and Ronnie Harper.
