Dorothy Prouty

Dorothy Howe was the daughter of Matthias Rowe of Rutland, Massachusetts. She was born in Marlborough, Massachusetts on July 28, 1737.

On January 15, 1761, she became the second wife of Adam Prouty, son of Isaac Prouty and Elizabeth (Merritt) Prouty. Their children were all born at Spencer, Massachusetts.

Together, they had:

• Luther, date unknown
• Stephen, c. 1764
• Calvin, bapt. November 17, 1770
• Ezekiel, bapt. November 17, 1770
• Seth, b. November 12, 1771
• Rhoda, b. c. 1773; m. April 18, 1793 to Jude Hamilton

Her husband is sometimes reported to have fathered children named Eunice, Patty, Dolly, and Lucy. (No evidence is known for these children; if you have any, please share.)

Adam died at Spencer in 1793, leaving the widowed Dorothy as administrator of his estate. Dorothy herself died October 12, 1809 and had her will proved on October 23, 1809.
