About Dorothy Thomson
Dorothy Gilbert, daughter of Richard Gilbert, was born circa 1532 at of Somerson, Suffolk, England.1 She married John Thompson, Esq., Sheriff of Bedfordshire & Buckinghamshire, Burgess of New Windsor, Auditor of the Exchequer on 26 July 1546 at St. Matthew Friday Street, London, Middlesex, England.

John Thomson died 3 Apr. 1597, leaving to his wife the contents of his house by Charterhouse churchyard. His son and heir, Robert, aged 30, received a gold chain of 1,164 links and all his ‘armour, artillery and munition of war’.

In the north-east corner of the chancel, against a blocked window, is an alabaster tomb with effigies of John Thompson and his wife Dorothy; he was an auditor of the Exchequer.
