                                           WALLINGTON C.1.
30th June, 1953. Mr. D.H. Winters, Te Kopuru NORTH AUCkLAND,

Dear Sir,

Enclosed please find a discharge certificate covering the period of your service in the R.N.Z.A.F. which, for various reasons it has not been possible to issue earlier.

In forwarding this certificate it is desired to draw your attention to present conditions as no doubt you will be interested in the opportunities which the Service offers trained personnel in the Regular and Non-Regular Branches:
REGULAR SERVICE:

Amended conditions of service provide for long term engage- ments in the Regular Air Force for all personnel who have satisfactorily served for three years and have attained the high standard necessary for a Permanent engagement. Personnel are required to have attained the rank of Leading Air craftman and be able to complete a total of 24 years service before reaching the age of 55. In certain circumstances applications will be consid- ered from those able ,to complete a total of 20 years service before reaching the age of 55. Special opportunities for employment as Patrolmen, Mess Stewards, and Aircrafthands, Without liability for posting are open to personnel 40 years of age gnd over. These engagements may be terminated at any time on either side on giving 14 days notice.

As an ex-member, your previous service would count towards the requirement of three years service, except that.a minimum of one year must be served after re-enlistment before you would be eligible for a permanent engagement. You are no doubt aware that previous service may be purchased for superannuation purposes and this scheme provides an attractive retiring pay at a comparatively early age. Service in a Government Department may also count towards superannuation.
Generous allowance is made for previous rank on re-enlistment whilst the revised rates of pay are most attractive. For instance, today a Warrant Officer in Group A4 married and living at home, receives £18.4.0 weekly as his first year rate of pay. There are increments for length of service in each rank. The first year rate of pay for Sergeants and Corporals in similar circumstances is £15.18.6 and £14.10.6 weekly respectively.
You would do well to consider these factors, realising that the R.N.Z.A.F. provides a permanent engagement with generous re- tiring pay for those who render satisfactory service. For those who do not desire or are unable to qualify for a superannuation contract, gratuity at the rate of £37.10.0 per annum is payable in respect of satisfactory service for a maximum period of twelve years.
Th
If you are considering re-enlistment, the R.N.Z.A.F. Selection Committee will be glad to 4scuss all aspects entirely 'without obligation to you.
In considering applications for re-enlistment, the Selection Committee will give full consideration to your previous Service record.
NON-REGULAR FORCES:

With regard to the Non-Regular Forces, applications are invited for all Branches as follows:-

(a) TERRITORIAL AIR FORCE:

details of the obligations entailed will be for-
         warded on application.

(b) ACTIVE RESERVE:
