Looking for information on Abraham Phillips Born in South Carolina in 1788 Died in Roane Co. Tennessee on December 4th 1863. Abraham's first wife was Visa Mock a full blood Cherokee. She was also known as the widow Reinfroe. Abraham was 1/4th Cherokee and his family lived around the Fort Loudon Settlement in Monroe Co. Tennessee. The family may have lived between Fort Loudon, Fort Prince George and Fort 96 in the mid 1700"s which at the time was claimed by South Carolina but was in the Cherokee Nation later North Carolina and Tennessee. This was on the trade route to Charleston South Carolina. Abraham or his wife may have received land in 1817 as part of The Reservations for land Roll. At that time they would have broken any ties with the Cherokee. Abraham served in the War of 1812. His second wife was Lavicy Edmonds Bowman they were married August 22 1826 in Roane Co. Tennessee. Each had 6 children at the time they went on to have 5 or 6 more. The children of the first marriage of Abraham included George Squire Phillips Born October 17,1816 died December 15 1905. buried at the Plowman Cemetery Apson Tennessee. Nancy Phillips, Russell Phillips, William Phillips. The children of the second marriage were Abraham Jr., Evaline, Mary"Polly" Phillips, Lavica Phillips, Issac Phillips, and Amanda Phillips. The youngest Bowman child was named James. By 1850 the family had moved to Hamilton Co. Tennessee. Hamilton Co. changed to James Co. in 1872 then back to Hamilton in 1919. George and Abraham Jr. were Wagon makers and Abraham was a Shoemaker and Doctor according to family record. Abraham's wife Lavicy, Amanda and James Bowman are listed on Lavicys pension application as living in Walker Co. Ga. in 1878. Most of the Phillips Families in the Chattanooga area and up both sides of the Tennessee River to Bradley Co and Roane Co. Tennessee are descendants of this family. 21 descendants of the first marriage are listed on the Guion Miller Roll of 1907. All the claims were rejected as not being able to prove there Cherokee relations

DR. ABRAHAM BENTON3 PHILLIPS (ABRAHAM2, ABRAHAM1) was born March 1785 in South Carolina, & died Dec. 4, 1863 in Roane County, Tennessee. He married (1) NANCY WHEELER7 Nov. 7, 1822 in Blount County, Tennessee. She was born Aft. 1750, & died Bef. 1900. He married (2) LAVICA (OR LAVICY OR LAVISA OR LAVISY) EDMONDS Aug. 22, 1826 in Blount County, Tennessee. She was born Abt. 1795 in Tennessee, & died Bet. 1878 - 1900.

According to Phillips Family Record, Abraham was a doctor and "could cure cancer, but no one seemed to have known that this was unusual and did not preserve his formula."

Abraham is listed in the 1850 & 1860 census.

Military service: January 1814, Drafted into the 2nd regiment of the East Tennessee Militia (War of 1812).

Occupation: 1860, Worked as a shoemaker.
