Dr. Albert J. Blair, 95, of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Fla., died Wednesday, August 25, 2004, in his home. He was born May 8, 1909, in Waynesburg, a son of Charles B. and Florence E. Brown Blair.
Dr. Blair was a graduate of West Virginia University and Jefferson Medical College. He practiced medicine in Waynesburg from 1936 to 1956.
During World War II and the Korean War, he served active duty as a surgeon for the 28th Infantry Division. He retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Brigadier General and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal from Pennsylvania.
From 1957 to 1975, he served as medical director for Consolidated Natural Gas Co., Pittsburgh.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Waynesburg, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kappa Alpha fraternity at WVU and Nu Sigma fraternity at Jefferson Medical College and a charter member of Waynesburg Rotary Club.
Dr. Blair was a past president of Greene County Medical Society and Greene County Memorial Hospital.
He was a longtime member of Greene County Country Club; Waynesburg Lodge 153 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh and Syria Temple of the Shine, where he was a member of the Legion of Honor and the Royal Order of Jesters.
He served eight years on the board of trustees for Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in Erie, Pa.
