"Examines a bloody incident that took place in the village of Fonyód, central Hungary, in 1919, at the peak of the "White Terror" under conditions of anti-communist and antisemitic hysteria. Three affluent Jews, Tószegi, Gráner and Hamburger, were hanged by Horthy's army on the suspicion that they had supported the communist revolution some months earlier; the military executed them in disregard of Horthy's orders to release them. The "verdicts" against them were passed based on popular rumors, not on facts, nobody in Fonyód wondered why wealthy and considered individuals would cast their lot with communists." etc. ...

The following newspaper article of the era speaks of the "tragic" death from tuberculosis of Erzsébet TÓSZEGI, who was in a convent in Switzerland to study (whilst brother Ferenc was apparently studying in München). It also relates some of the gruelling details about the murder of her father, Albert TÒSZEGI - the tree branches he was hanged on kept breaking so that he fell to the ground each time, as his distraught wife was forced to watch - and then mother Ilona's nervous breakdown and death in Trieste a year later. (N.B. the article, however, gives a false year for the incident.)
