Dr. Arlie Ray Barnes is the seveneth of seven children born to James Henry Barnes and Nancy Elma Wolfe.

On 16 Nov 1916, Arlie married Blanche Storey, daughter of Smith William Storey and Lena Carlisle Storey, in Marion County, Indiana. They had one son, David Arlie Barnes, born 24 Jul 1925 in Minnesota.

On 7 Jun 1947, Dr Arlie Barnes was elected President of the American Heath Association. In 1955, he was named Chairman of the Board at The Mayo Clinic.

Dr. A.R. Barnes: Arlie Ray Barnes was born in Jennings County on April 24, 1892, son of James Henry and Nancy Elma (Wolf). He studied medicine at the University of Indiana and Minnesota. He interned at the Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis.

He went to the Mayo Foundation in 1920. He served in the United States Army in 1918. He has held various offices in medical circles. He is author of "Electrocardiograph Patterns of Diagnostic Significance". He is still employed at the Mayo Climin in Rochester, Minnesota. He married Blanch Storey. They have one son, David Arlie Barnes.
