About Dr, ES Dawbiney
A notable figure in Dominican History. He was of Jamaican birth. According to the Dominica Story (Dr. Lennox Honeyvhurch 1984) Dr. Dawbiney was a politician who along with one OD Riviere (likely Olify) partcipated in the land tax disturbances of 1886.
Dr. Dawbiney also left a mark on local history when upon his death he bequeathed funds for the purchase of a new building for the Dominica Grammar School, which still has a house named after him to this day, as well as for the construction of the covered area at the Old Market Square in Roseau. The area is still known today as the Dawbiney Market. Visitors to the Princess Margaret Hospital will find a ward named after him as well.
