About Dr Elias Marks
Converted to Christianity from Judaism by his black nurse. Second son of Humphrey and Frances Marks. Married (1st) June Barham in NYC in 1816. Married (2nd) Julia Pierpont Warne of New Haven, Conn.
from his daughter's obit: .."Dr. Marks of the once famous Barhamville School near Columbia, where so many young women of the Carolinas, Georgia and other Southern states were educated just prior to the War of Secession. Like the city of Columbia, the school was burned during the war, so Dr. Marks, with his wife and daughter, came to Washington directly after the war."
